1960 Fiat Jolly 500
Overview
This 1960 Fiat 500 Jolly is a true jewel of mid-century Mediterranean charm. Fully restored to its former glory with stunning Azzurro Chiaro light blue paint and a rebuilt engine, this museum piece reflects the whimsical spirit of its wealthy post-war target audience. Built as a warm-climate runabout, tan wicker seats replaced the original interior of the Nuova 500, along with the removal of its roof and doors. This example includes a replica of the original top with a second top currently installed. Its 499cc air-cooled two-cylinder engine produces around 18 horsepower, with a 4-speed manual transmission and U.S.-market protruding headlight pods. Only 650 were produced, with fewer than 100 believed to still exist today.
The Jolly was the motoring equivalent to the Hermès Birkin bag—a small but standout luxury accessory. First conceptualized by Fiat chairman Gianni Agnelli as an on-land yacht tender, the car’s design is credited to famed Italian coachbuilding firm, Ghia. Notable owners in period included Jackie Onassis and President Lyndon B. Johnson, the latter being known for driving it on his Texas ranch. Now a popular vehicle for recreation or tributes, this newly restored 500 Jolly stands as a rare, factory-built chassis from the model’s official production run.
Combining unquestioned appeal with enthusiast provenance, this 1960 Fiat 500 Jolly is sure to bring smiles to drivers and passerby alike. As a micro-car with outsized personality to spare, its cult classic style arrives second-to-none in turnkey, concours condition.
